Why are Supreme Court Decisions Important?


The Supreme Court is among the six highest organ of Turkey. Therefore, the decisions made by the Supreme Court have a great importance. Because some judgments given by the courts are not left to other judicial bodies. In this case, the Supreme Court will be the last review body.

Thanks to the Supreme Court, it is also controlled whether the decisions made by the judicial courts are unlawful. In this sense, in other words, the Supreme Court can be defined as the appellate court and the high court. Criminal, civil and commercial courts all operate under the Supreme Court control. Thanks to the supervision of these courts and the decisions taken, integrity in the implementation of the law is ensured and it is possible to interpret the articles in the law correctly. Thus, the opinions of the Supreme Court cannot be ignored in the decisions to be taken from the courts.

Local courts deal with various civil, criminal and business cases. The decisions that will come out of these cases can be disrupted by the Supreme Court, even in favor or against. The decision sent to the Supreme Court for appeal is examined and approved. If the decision is not approved, it may be broken. Thus, the verdict of the court decision will not have any provision. For this reason, the Supreme Court is also known as the court of appeal.

It is possible for everyone in the case to issue an appeal decision. There is no need for any condition other than the time for this to happen. Neither the defendant nor the plaintiff need to provide a number of reasons for the appeal. If the person wishes, he also has the right to appeal the decision through the lawyer during the court. The concept that provides this right to the citizen is the state of law and the Supreme Court takes its place among the important parts of the state of law.

Due to the large number of files sent to the Supreme Court, some decisions may take years to come to a conclusion.

Important because of a Supreme Court decision makers in 2011 the number of apartments in Turkey from 32 to 38, while the number of members was increased to 250 from 387’y. Finally, in 2014, the number of flats was increased to 46 and the number of members to 516.

In short, the Supreme Court’s decisions are of great importance since they are authorized to approve or disrupt the conclusion reached by the court, have higher authority than the local and judicial courts and are among the structures that form the basis of the rule of law.
